Can I email my hospital consultant?

Can I email my hospital consultant?

No, not usually. Sorry. This is mainly because hospitals have quite strict rules about direct email discussions between patients and consultants (in fact, all doctors).

So. Can I email my hospital consultant?

As we say, no, not usually. This is partly because they can never be certain that the person emailing them is the patient.

So. The best way to contact them is either to:

  1. Ring their secretary. You can find out the number by ringing the hospital and asking switchboard; or,
  2. Email their secretary. This can usually be found in the ‘consultant area’ on the hospital website.

Hospital consultants’ secretaries are usually very helpful. They are usually from (or near to) the town or city where the hospital is, so see things from a patient’s perspective.

If you having problems contacting them

Ring (or better go and see) the PALS department. Chasing doctors is partly what they are for. It is usually at the front entrance of the hospital.

CKDEx is sorry that not all doctors make themselves easy to contact [“yeah right” CKDEx Ed].

Summary

We have described can I email my hospital consultant. We hope it has been helpful.
