How to get an NHS interpreter

Not everyone speaks good English in the UK. Fortunately, there is an NHS interpreter service.

Before you have an appointment with your GP or hospital doctor, contact either the GP’s receptionist or hospital consultant’s secretary.

They can arrange for an interpreter for a face-to-face (F2F) appointment or on the phone if its a virtual appointment. Its important that the doctor fully understands your problem, for you to get the best care.

[NB. Hint. If its a F2F appointment, it is also good to bring a relative or friend with you whose English is better.]
