Selena Marie Gomez is an American singer, actress, producer, and businesswoman.
She first revealed her Lupus diagnosis in an interview with Billboard in 2015 while explaining why she took an extended break from Hollywood,
I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy. That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke.”
I also wanted so badly to say,
You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy’.. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
Selena Gomez received a kidney transplant in 2017 from her best friend and fellow actress, Francia Raisa. Her CKD is due lupus nephritis. Since then, the star has remained at the top of her game, with hit singles, albums, production deals and a beauty brand.
What is Lupus?
Lupus, also called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), is an autoimmune disease. This means the body’s natural defence system (immune system) attacks healthy parts of your body. It is not always easy to diagnose because it can be similar to other conditions. It is not contagious.
Symptoms include inflammation of different parts of the body including the skin, lungs, heart, liver, joints and kidneys. It is more common in young women, especially Black, Asian and Oriental ones.
