Should I ask Google to find out what’s wrong with me? (yes)

Should I ask Google to find out what’s wrong with me? (yes)

Yes. By that, we mean a ‘qualified yes’, i.e. be careful what you read.

The good thing about ‘Googling’ health information is that it can teach a non medical person a lot about the condition(s) they have, or make a diagnosis (by listing symptoms). But it can be a bad thing too if it gives you false information that either makes your illness worse, confuses you, or unnecessarily frightens you.

How can you judge if the information is ‘ok’? It is hard. Use reliable websites like the very good NHS website, patient charities, universities, hospitals, GP practices.

We hope CKDEx will help you too!

Avoid ones if you think the information there, will either lead to an increase their funding, is ‘too good to be true’ or encourages you to be referred to them.
