One in ten people will have some form of kidney disease, even though most of them will never even know about it. Most of the time, kidney disease can be symptomless up until end-stage, which is known as kidney failure. Most people think that kidney disease only affects elderly people, but that’s simply not true.
There are millions of children around the world with CKD and many young adults too.
Selena Gomez, age 31. Actress and singer, has CKD.
Darren, also known as Tiktok Kidney Warrior, has managed to gain an enormous following on social media. He has over 130,000 followers across his accounts and has accumulated a massive 100 million views. The Tik Tok account is dedicated to explaining the symptoms, possible prevention and tips for newly diagnosed patients with chronic kidney disease.
Darren was diagnosed 7 years ago and has faced many struggles in that time. He’s had high blood pressure and high cholesterol, leading to having a stroke, just before diagnosis of kidney disease. These life experiences led Darren to change his lifestyle and lead a much healthier life. He stopped smoking cigarettes, stopped eating unhealthy foods and started to exercise more to help his condition.
Darren now wants to help other people deal with their diagnosis and states ‘one of the best things was teaming up with Doctor Andy Stein of University Hospital Coventry (UHCW), an experienced Nephrologist (kidney doctor); to make awareness videos, and to assist with his new website www.ckdexplained.co.uk. This website is a massive free resource all about kidney disease.
I urge all patients and medical professionals with an interest in renal disease to take a look and get great and concise information.
