What is the least busy time in A&E?

  • The quietest time at A&E is 6-7am
  • Monday is the busiest day for A&E visits – avoid that if you can.

The quietest time to visit A&E is 6-7am , particularly a Sunday morning. So that is the best time to go.

But. If the problem is not too bad, it may be better to wait until 8am and go a  Walk-in Centre, or Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) or Minor Illness/Injury Units (MIUs). They are similar. Find out online which you have in your area.

Walk-in centres, UTCs and MIUs often not open 24/7 – usually 8am-8pm (or 10pm). Their work gets taken over by A&E at night.

Again, go early – say 7.30am – so you are first in the queue. You usually wait less long there than A&E.

One of the reasons A&Es, Walk-in centres, UTCs and MIUs are so busy nowadays is because of the lack of GP services. But you should not misuse an urgent or emergency service to get around that. The care you get there, may not be as good as you can get from GPs, who are often more experienced.

Summary

What is the least busy time in A&E? (6-7am). Try to avoid Mondays. If the problem is not that bad, it may be better to go to an UTC or MIU.
