World Kidney Day 2024

The World Around Us

What is World Kidney Day 2024?

World Kidney Day is Thursday 14th March 2024. It is always the second Thursday in March.

World Kidney Day is an important global awareness campaign, aimed at raising awareness about the importance of our kidneys, and of reducing the frequency and impact of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and its associated health problems worldwide.

Education and advocation

For kidney patients, World Kidney Day serves as a crucial platform to educate the public and policymakers about the risks, early detection (with 3 big tests), and management of kidney diseases. It also helps in advocating for better access to care, support, and treatment options for kidney patients.

By promoting preventive behaviours and healthy lifestyle choices, World Kidney Day seeks to empower kidney patients to take charge of their health and well-being.

The role in healthcare

World Kidney Day is important for doctors and other health professionals because it raises awareness about kidney health, and encourages people to take proactive steps to prevent kidney disease.

It provides an opportunity for all healthcare professionals to educate the public about the importance of early detection, proper management, and lifestyle changes to maintain kidney health. By emphasising the significance of kidney health, the burden of kidney disease can be reduced, and patient outcomes improved.

It’s personal

Here at CKDExplained, World Kidney Day is very important to us. The below poem was curated by the Tik Tok Kidney Warrior, Darren, to raise awareness of World Kidney Day in 2024.

On World Kidney Day, let’s raise a cheer,
For these silent heroes, so vital, so dear.
Filtering life’s rivers, they tirelessly toil,
Keeping us healthy, our bodies they foil.

From dawn till dusk, they silently serve,
A testament to resilience, they truly deserve.
Let’s cherish and care for these organs divine,
On World Kidney Day, let their importance shine.
